Arrived in Lima. Then transfered to a smaller plane for our trip to Cusco. Took a bus tour around Cusco and went through a museum of Inca culture. Doug took special altitude medicine but Betesy was alergic sho she took Ginko Biloba. Both of us were fine with the altitude. Our hotel was at 11,000 ft. In the evening we walked around the main square in Cusco and Doug took pictures and we got hounded by people that wanted to sell us everything from paintings, finger puppets, hats, DVD, CD and other stuff. The next day we boarded a bus to get to the train to Machu Picchu. The train ride was three hours. We passed some great views of mountains, clifs, rivers, rain forest. Doug hung out the back door, with the conductorn, taking his photography. Got to MP and went directly to an eleveation that overlooked the village. The village was build in the 1400s. The preservation efforts were incredible. The place was very well kept and the rooms were well defined. Our guide told us that there were one million visitors in the past year and they are going to start limiting them. Today it was crowded. No railings this area is not to USA code. It rained really hard while we hiked but we were very prepaired. Tadd, the rain pants would have been great. We have lots of great pictures and cant wait to show them all to you. The ride back was equally as senic. We saw several vilages (sat on the other side of the train) and snow capped mountain. Great time so far... The people are a wide varity of ages, we are among the youngest.
